San Benito High School
Title: Groundsworker/Custodian
Definition/Basic Function: As assigned, performs general maintenance work.
Directly Responsible to: Maintenance Supervisor
Examples of Duties/ Essential Functions:
1. Waters and cares for lawns;
2. Using hand and power mowers, trims trees, hedges and shrubs;
3. Rakes leaves and hoes weeds;
4. Keeps hoses, supplies, tools and equipment in proper condition and repair;
5. Cultivates and waters plants, shrubs, hedges, trees and flowers;
6. Washes garbage cans and cleans tables;
7. Picks up papers and other debris;
8. Trims lawn with power edger;
9. Fixes water sprinklers and repairs broken water lines;
10. Puts up athletic equipment such as soccer goals and tennis nets;
11. Prepares athletic fields for sporting events;
12. Repairs broken fences;
13. Sprays weeds;
14. Discs field with disc and tractor;
15. Hauls trash and empties sawdust bins;
16. Paints benches and bleachers;
17. Repairs broken windows;
18. Helps pour and finish concrete walks and curbing as needed;
19. Sets up microphone and amplifier systems;
20. Operates fork lift.
21. As assigned, sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes, and oils floors;
22. Assembles lockers;
23. Empties and cleans waste receptacles;
24. Assists in moving and arranging furniture and other equipment;
25. Cleans restrooms and concession stands;
26. Mops locker rooms and sweeps sidewalks;
27. Drives trucks and other District vehicles;
28. Requests supplies;
29. Vacuums swimming pools and cleans and washes pool decks and adjacent areas;
30. Checks pool and adds water and chemicals as needed;
31. Backwashes filters and shock treats pool with liquid chlorine as needed;
32. Prepares pools for swimming and diving meets;
33. Repairs and installs lane lines, starting blocks;
34. Sets up bleachers;
35. Replaces light bulbs.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Training, Experience and Educational Requirements:
o One year of grounds keeping or custodial experience;
o Or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
Certificates/Licenses:
o Possession of an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
o Methods, supplies and tools used in the planting, cultivating and caring for flowers, trees, shrubs and lawns;
o And in the maintenance and installation of concrete, sprinkler systems, fence and athletic department;
o And modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment generally used in grounds maintenance work;
o Perform work requiring mechanical ability;
o Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiently;
o Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
o Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others.

Daily Service: Tuesday - Saturday, 6:30 a.m. ? 3:00 p.m. (1/2 hour lunch)

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
